eBay announced that from June 15, to restrict or even ban the sale of adult erotic products

According to U.S. media reports, e-commerce giant eBay announced that from June 15, 2021, it will close its "adult section" and ban the sale of most adult content and erotic products, with the exception of erotic magazines such as Playboy and Penthouse.

In a new "adult content policy" posted on eBay, it said that "sexually oriented" content, including pornographic movies, anime and books, will no longer be allowed on the platform.

In addition, any items containing nudity will also be banned, even for model clothing that is "transparent or very tight and shows human genitals, anus or female breast nipples/areolas.

In a statement to Motherboard, an eBay spokesperson said the move was made for safety reasons."eBay is committed to maintaining a safe and trusted marketplace. from June 15, 2021, items with sexual content or sexually suggestive poses will no longer be allowed on eBay.com. All other adult-only products will no longer be offered as a category. No new products will be allowed to be posted in the 'Adults Only' category.

There are some exceptions, however. "Pre-approved sellers" will continue to be allowed to sell sex toys, and only if they are new and in their original packaging. Meanwhile, non-sexually explicit nude art will also be allowed.
Interestingly, however, eBay also made explicit exceptions for Playboy, Playgirl, Mayfair and Penthouse magazines, which are known to be very popular among collectors.

The change is sure to efffect many sex toy sellers on eBay, because the site is a popular place to buy and sell vintage pornography and sex toys.

eBay did not respond to media inquiries about the motivation behind the change. But the company wrote at the bottom of its new policy, "We want to make it possible for those who wish to legally purchase adult products to do so, while preventing those who do not wish to view or purchase these items from having easy access to them."
